DELIVERIES
FOR A FUNERAL > DELIVERY LOCATION
One of the most important items of information needed
when filling in your order form is the delivery location.
This will vary according to how each individual funeral
is organised. Each type of location produces a different
set of circumstances and delivery requirements.
There are four main possible
delivery locations:
- The domestic home, where
the deceased previously lived or the home of another
family member or friend.
- The funeral home or funeral
service premises or their chapel.
- The church or chapel
- The crematorium.
DELIVERIES
FOR A FUNERAL > RESPONSIBILITY AT THE DELIVERY
LOCATION
It is always very important that flowers are received
and checked at the point of delivery. We are very
concious of the fact that queries may arise and confirmation
of delivery may be requested for some orders.
When
flowers are delivered to a domestic home, either the
previous home of the deceased or the home of a close
relation or friend we can usually be sure of there
being someone at that address at the time of delivery
to receive the flowers. The flowers are usually laid
out for anyone arriving at the house to see. Delivery
to this location would be recommended.
Very
often deliveries are requested to the funeral home
where the deceased may be resting prior to the service.
On some occasions there will be no contact with the
domestic home and the delivery of flowers to the funeral
home is more convenient. Delivery to this location
would be recommended.
We
will organise the delivery of flowers to the church
or chapel where the service is due to take place.
There are a few problems associated with deliveries
to this location. Many churches are now locked and
access to the church can sometimes be difficult. As
most flowers for a funeral service are delivered a
little before the service, it is unlikely that there
will be anyone at the church to personally receive
the flowers. We could also be open to problems of
theft of flowers left at a church or subsequent queries
of non delivery. Deliveries to this location are not
usually recommended but requests for delivery will
be accepted conditionally.
Deliveries
of flowers can be made direct to the crematorium where
the service is to be held. Flowers are usually laid
outside by the florist driver against a plaque which
displays the name of the deceased. It is quite acceptable
to make deliveries to a crematorium, although this
is not a preferred location. It is unusual for our
florist driver to obtain a signature for flowers delivered
at a crematorium. The flowers are open to the extremes
of the weather from the moment of delivery until the
service. We are unable to accept responsibility, in
extreme cases, where these flowers may be moved or
mislaid by the actions of others. Deliveries to this
location are not usually recommended but requests
for delivery will be accepted conditionally.

FOR A FUNERAL > FUNERAL ARRANGEMENTS INFORMATION
It is very important that we receive full and concise
information when placing your order for funeral flowers.
Each customer wishing to send flowers will need to
find out the information required. It is always our
aim on behalf of our customer to respect the wishes
of the deceased and the family or friends arranging
the funeral.
Information
about the funeral can usually be obtained from a member
of the family or the funeral director who is arranging
the funeral. Where this is not possible you can try
to speak to the local crematorium who should be able
to put you in touch with the funeral director.
Where
time allows you may find a notice in the local or
national newspaper.
It
is very important for us to abide by the wishes of
the family but at the same time provide our usual
high level of service to our customer.
DELIVERIES
FOR A FUNERAL > FAMILY WISHES
We need to understand and receive correct instruction
through any order placed that you have requested for
your order to be delivered to the correct location.
It
is not a logical conclusion that all flowers will
be delivered to one address. Sometimes close family
flowers will go to the funeral home while all remaining
flowers will go to the domestic home. The family flowers
then ride on the coffin to the domestic home.
Occasionally
we may be faced with a family request for no flowers,
flowers from close family only and various other staements.
We offer our valued service to provide flowers at
a sad time for all our customers. We have no wish
to go against the wishes of the family at this time.
It is not however our place to decide who does meet
the criteria set for the occasion. If an order is
placed through our service, for flowers against family
wishes, which are subsequently refused, they will
be charged in full, even if the delivery is turned
away and cannot be completed.
Where
a call is made for "family flowers only"
or "no flowers by request" you might like
to consider sending what we call "sympathy flowers
for the house". SYMPATHY
FLOWERS link to more information below.
DELIVERIES
FOR A FUNERAL > DELIVERY DATE FOR FUNERAL
It is important to fill in our order form with the
correct day and date for delivery. We should point
out that it becomes very confusing and time consuming
for us if the wrong delivery date is entered on our
order form.
In
the UK, flowers for funerals are usually delivered
on the day of the funeral service unless separate
arrangements have been made for special circumstances.
Flowers
for funerals under certain religions are sometimes
delivered before the day of the service, going into
church prior to the service.
It
is very important to us to produce and deliver your
funeral flowers on the correct day. Some families
may refuse to accept flowers on the day before the
funeral not wishing to keep them in the house overnight.
DELIVERIES
FOR A FUNERAL > DELIVERY TIME FOR FUNERAL
We do not allow a space for the time of delivery on
our order form. We would however value your help in
assessing a time for delivery.
We
find that we end up with the most problems, where
our customer just does not have any knowledge of a
time associated with the funeral and requests a delivery
by 9am just to be on the safe side. The actual service
can very often be in to the afternoon. This can cause
unnecessary pressure on our delivery system, lead
to flowers arriving at the domestic home too early
causing further anxiety plus possible deterioration
of the flowers in extreme weather.
The
second situation we try avoid is through word of mouth
the time of the service is translated into an earlier
and earlier time for delivery creating the same problems
as above.
We
would prefer each customer to provide some of the
following information about time, which should be
entered in the extra information box at the bottom
of our order form along with any other relavent information
you would like us to know.

DELIVERIES FOR A FUNERAL > DECEASED SURNAME
Flowers for a funeral are normally addressed to
the deceased by way of: Late Mr F.R. Bloggs.
If
the flowers are being delivered to the deceased persons
normal domestic home the name followed by the normal
address is sufficient.
If
the flowers are going to the home of another family
member, relation or other domestic residence, you
should qualify the deceased name with the name of
the person or people receiving the flowers.
Example:
Late Mr F.R.Bloggs c/o Mr & Mrs H. D. West (at
the correct delivery address)
If
the flowers are being delivered to the local funeral
directors they should be addressed as follows:
Example:
Late Mr F.R.Bloggs c/o Saunders & Son Funeral
Services (at the correct delivery address)
DELIVERIES
FOR A FUNERAL > SUITABILITY OF SYMPATHY FLOWERS
It is very often stated that this or that form of
funeral tribute will or will not be suitable for a
funeral or cremation, that you may or may not send
a wreath to a cremation service.
In
practical terms we can and will provide any of the
floral tributes in our extensive range for any type
of service at any time. We qualify that more by saying
that the choice should fall in firstly with any family
wishes and secondly with our customers choice but
not with any supposition.
It
is often suggested to us that flowers should be supplied
which may be suitable for re use, being taken on to
a hospital or retirement home. This will only happen
if it has been specifically requested by the family
and acted on by the funeral directors or family members.
We will organise suitable flowers according to our
customers wishes.
The
floral product you send should be carefully chosen
to represent your position in relation to many factors.
The most important factor being the family wishes,
who the flowers are representing and the budget involved.
You should be cautious and consider an item, which
along with the card, will collect and portray your
thoughts on the day of the service, whether you are
present or not.
The
size of the item is particularly important when flowers
are sent from a group of people. When sending from
a larger group like an activity club or from a business,
please consider an Open Wreath, where the flowers
are mixed around the ring and create a good value
look. A simpler item on the same basis could be a
reasonable size funeral spray.
DELIVERIES
FOR A FUNERAL > SYMPATHY CARD MESSAGE
The card message on your order will be hand written
or typed, at the discretion of our florist, on to
the funeral card attached to your flowers.
We
presume with our order form that the card will be
blank, apart from a small picture illisration, to
start with and only contain the text you have entered
on your order form. Where your text coincides with
normal text found on some of our prewritten cards
they may be used and your remaing text added to follow
on.
We
leave the choice of card message to every customer.
We would like to explain that most card messages normally
fall into three or four parts. Please find below examples
of a typical card message.
Example:
Cynthia, a lovely lady who will be sadly missed, with
all our love from Sarah, Tom, and Nicola.
Example:
With our deepest sympathy from the directors and staff
at Bonzo Meats.
Example:
In loving memory of my dear mum, with love from Rachel.

DELIVERIES
FOR A FUNERAL > SIGNING YOUR SYMPATHY CARD
We do consider it to be very important to sign your
card to let the family know who your flowers have
come from. The following information will help to
clarify any situation and avoid any misunderstandings.
We
do respect the fact that occasionally some customers
may not want to sign their gift cards for personal
reasons. If this is the case we would appreciate receiving
a note in the extra information box at the end of
the order form to say "no card signature required"
This will help us to avoid any misunderstandings and
help when and if we receive a query from the family.
DELIVERIES
FOR A FUNERAL > NO SYMPATHY CARD MESSAGE
We will be prepared to send flowers to a funeral with
no card message although this will be a little unusual.
We need to clarify our customers requirement should
we receive an order with no card message.
If
you require no card and no card message please enter
"no card & no card message required"
in the extra information box.
If
you require a plain card with or without a small picture,
at our florists discretion, on the card to be sent
atteched to the flowers but with no card message please
enter the following message in the extra information
box on the order form "no card message required"
DELIVERIES
FOR A FUNERAL > SYMPATHY DELIVERY RESPONSIBILITY
All orders will be delivered as requested to the customers
chosen point of delivery. We will come back to each
customer to request to change the delivery location,
providing time allows, where we are advised that the
family have requested delivery to a different location.
At
the point of delivery our florist driver will try
to obtain a signature or evidence to prove delivery
has been made. This is not always possible and for
some delivery locations our drivers word will have
to be taken as proof of delivery.
It
is normal policy, in line with customer requests,
to deliver flowers for a funeral in advance of the
service to the requested delivery point. Once the
correct and successful delivery has been made we will
then consider that our contract has been fulfilled
being the end of our responsibility. We cannot, after
this point, offer to be responsible for the movement
or well being of your floral order.
Example:
Flowers delivered to the Funeral Director which subsequently
fail to arrive at the funeral, arrive late at the
funeral or go to the wrong funeral.
Example:
Flowers delivered to the domestic house, left outside
in a heavy rain storm, ruining the flowers.
Example:
Flowers dropped or damaged in transit between the
house or funeral directors and the service.
We
will of course be happy to assist in any enquiries
concerning the condition of the flowers but wish to
point out the limitations to our responsibility where
we are totally unable to control the actions of others.
DELIVERIES
FOR A FUNERAL > SYMPATHY FLOWERS
It has always been an important part of a florists
work to provide "funeral flowers" for the
funeral service. Nowadays we are increasingly asked
to provide "sympathy flowers" for the family
for the home.
Sympathy
flowers can provide a wealth of comfort and expression
to a bereaved family without being too overwhelming
or intrusive. They can be delivered to the family
home addressed to an individual or to the whole family
on any day prior to the day of the funeral, on the
day itself or on a day soon after the service.
These
flowers can be chosen from any main floral section
on our website or from the "Sympathy Flowers"
section from our site or with discretion from any
part of the UK florist flowers, UK your choice or
UK Postal flowers sections of our site.
These
flowers may be used to brighten the family house prior
to the funeral service, continuing to be present and
enhance the house when the family arrive for the service
plus continuing to provide comfort during the wake
and the days afterwards. The length of time the flowers
will last will depend partly on the prevailing weather
conditions and the temperature in the house.
One
further alternative you might consider, one becoming
increasingly used, is to send a fruit basket to the
house as an expression of sympathy. Each order carries
your personal message card. FRUIT
